The West Family have been in the butchery business for 6 Generations, and have been at Sway for over 30 years.
Originally from North London where his family had 3 shops, John West arrived in Sway in the hot summer of 1976. His son David joined the business as a partner in 1980, then becoming Sole Proprietor in 1995 on John’s retirement.

As well as providing their customers with excellent traditional cuts of meat over the generations, the Family have been making premium quality sausages for over 150 years, an achievement of which they are particularly proud. Their high standards are reflected in the number of awards they have won, ie Hampshire Supreme Champion and National Award Winner are just two awards that have been held. The secret of their success lies in the quality of the meat and the natural spices in the seasoning. Using a well guarded family recipe dating back to the 1900s, lean fresh cuts of meat (with NO Rind, Offal or Nasty Bits) are seasoned with a special blend of spices and herbs making good old fashioned tasty sausages.
Wishing to expand their award winning range of sausages, David set up the New Forest Sausage Company in 1989. This company runs alongside the Butchers Shop & specialises in top quality sausages for the retail & wholesale trade.
They are not only available from the Sway Shop, but also from other shops, restaurants, cafes & pubs in the New Forest area. The business now employs 8 people making over 1000lbs of tasty bangers a week!
