Keema Minced Beef Curry With Peas

This is a very mild but beautifully aromatic curry, made with freshly ground spices.

Serve it with some steamed basmati rice or some warm grilled naan bread.
Serves 4

2 tsp Cumin Seeds

2 tsp Coriander Seeds

1 tsp Turmeric Powder

I Medium Onion, finely chopped

4 Cloves of Garlic, crushed

4cm / 1 1/2 inche Fresh Ginger, peeled and finely chopped

2 tbsp Sunflower Oil

1-2 Red Chillies, seeded and finely chopped

1/2 tsp Cayenne Pepper

700g / 1 1/4 Lb Lean Minced Beef

2 tbsp Tomato Puree

300ml 1/2 pt Beef Stock

200g / 8oz Frozen Peas

4 tbsp Chopped Fresh Coriander

Salt and Freshly Ground Black Pepper

Put the cumin seeds, coriander seeds and tumeric powder into a spice grinder and grind to a fine powder.

Fry the onion, galic and ginger in the oil for 5 minutes until soft and lightly browned. Stir in the ground spices, red chilli and cayenne pepper and fry for 1 minute.

Add the minced beef and fry for 4-5 minutes, breaking up any lumps with a wooden spoon as it browns. Add the stock and leave to simmer for 20 minutes, until most but not all of the liquid has evaporated.

Stir in the peas and simmer for 4 minutes. Season to taste with some salt and pepper, stir in the chopped coriander and serve with some steamed basmati rice or warmed naan bread.
